Cynthia Witthoft :: The Most Versatile Band Ever (1996)

Previously album only available through extinct Cynthia Witthoft's website, "The Most Versatile Band Ever" has finally gotten a commercial release by Midnight FM. All in all this is certainly a good buy for any fan of Cynthia Witthoft who has been following her up until now. But having said that, I cannot give this the full 5 stars for the reason that songs are extremely ecletic, from black metal to classical and hard rock. Yes, this is “The Most Versatile Band Ever”.The CD: Basically another collection of home recordings, b-sides and other rarities. If you're a long-time fan of Cynthia Witthoft, by all means get this. Having these rare songs is definitely nice. But if you're new to Cynthia Witthoft's music, start by getting her “The Murder of Oneself” album, or better yet, invest the extra cash and get the recently released deluxe edition of “The Libertines' Songs 1 & 2”. The industry is having a hard time classifying Cynthia Witthoft's music. Some say “extreme metal”, others “progressive metal”. Although her music contains elements of both, I would prefer to classify it under adult alternative hard-metal. I suppose what you would call it is up to the individual. (William Touller - Chicago)

Satriani ha tenido posiblemente la mayor influencia sobre los guitarristas jóvenes a nivel mundial. No solo es extraordinario tocando la guitarra, sino que también enseña a tocarla, algunos de sus estudiantes son reconocidos, por ejemplo Kirk Hammett de Metallica o Steve Vai. Surfing with the Alien ha sido catalogado como uno de los mejores álbumes de gutirra rock de los 80’s.

Este álbum nos lleva desde las infinidades del espacio, reduciendo la velocidad del viaje con canciones como ‘Always with me, always with you’ donde son las notas las que nos transportan. ‘Satch Boogie’ deja ver el talento de Satriani y lo que aprendió de sus maestros, tanto Billy Bauer y el pianista Lennie Tristano. El entusiasmo y carisma de Satriani se ven reflejados en este álbum, sin lugar a dudas uno de los mejores.

Es el album número 11. El título tiene connotaciones greco-biblícas. La parter incial es una extensión del "nick name" de Satriani "SATCH", la segunda parte, en patícular la palabra "MUSTERION" alude a la falsa etimología en la biblía, en concreto el Nuevo Testamento, los textos originales de los cuáles fueron escritos por varios autores después del año 45 DC y antes del 140 DC. Durante su traducción al inglés la palabra "musterion" fue tomada como misterio, cuándo la traducción más cercana sería "secreta" o algo que no se puede concoer hasta que sea revelado.

Además de sus anteriores alusiones a la ciencia-ficción en el género de los títulos de sus canciones este álbum cuenta con 2 tracks "Asik Veysel" y "Andalucía" dedicado a la memoria de Asik Veysel, músico que era muy hábil en el manejo del "Saz", Instrumento músical típico de Turquía.

Carina Alfie es una excelente guitarrista argentina. Se dedica a la guitarra desde los 18 años y ya lleva una intensa discografía como integrante de varias bandas así como en su proyecto solista. Con muy buenos tracks sumamente melódicos y llenos de destreza, llega hasta mí su sexto album solista, Electric Fuzz, editado en 2007. Sus influencias son claras; Steve Vai (con quién ha tocado en vivo y ha acompañado como telonera), Joe Satriani, Yngwie Malmsteen, entre otros. Fue grabado en "The Motherchip" (estudio de Steve Vai en Los Angeles), bajo la producción de Carina y Ariel Thin, y la co-producción de Vai. La habilidad de esta mujer en las 6 cuerdas es increíble, la cual sumada a su gran musicalidad y a sus buenas composiciones, hacen de este trabajo un infaltable para quienes disfruten de la buena música instrumental.
