Alabama Thunderpussy es una banda formada en 1996 en Richmond, Virginia. Estos veteranos del southern metal editaron el 6 de Marzo de 2007 su sexto album de estudio, titulado Open Fire con nuevo vocalista, Kyle Thomas (ex-Exhorder, Floodgate). Fue producido por la banda y Ian Whalen. Es condsiderado por la crítica especializada como su mejor trabajo.

NOLA (acrónimo de New Orleans, Lousiana, lugar de donde es originario el grupo) es el primer álbum de Down lanzado al mercado en Septiembre de 1995, que obtuvo recientemente la condecoración de "disco de oro" tras venderse 500.000 copias en su país.

Tras este disco, la banda entró en un hiato donde todos sus miembros continuaron con sus otros proyectos hasta el año 2001, fecha en la que volvieron a reunirse.

Down es un proyecto formado a comienzos de la década de 1990 por integrantes de Pantera (Phil Anselmo, Rex Brown - éste último ingresó en 1999 en reemplazo de Todd Strange), Corrosion of Conformity (Pepper Keenan), Crowbar (Kirk Windstein) y EyeHateGod (Jimmy Bower).

El título del álbum es una referencia a varios puntos bajos en la vida de Phil Anselmo y el resto de la banda, incluyendo la tragedia del huracán Katrina en el 2004 y la muerte de Dimebag Darrel.
