Su nombre está inspirado en un libro que Angus Young leyó sobre gladiadores romanos llamado For Those About To Die We Salute You (aquellos que van a morir te saludan). Se refiere a las palabras que decían los gladiadores al emperador antes de luchar.

AC/DC es una banda de hard rock formada en 1973 en Melbourne, Australia, por los hermanos Malcom y Angus Young. Al momento de su formación contaban con Dave Evans como vocalista. Sin embargo los fanáticos tienden a dividir la historia del grupo en dos etapas: la de Bon Scott (1974-1979) y la de Brian Johnson (1980-actualmente).
