Kataklysm es una banda de death metal originaria de Canadá. Se formaron en 1992 y al comienzo de su carrera fueron conocidos como una de las bandas de metal más veloces y caóticas, luego debido a cambios en la formación su estilo musical también sufrió cambios.
In The Arms Of Devastation es el octavo album de estudio de la banda. Fue producido por el guitarrista de la banda Jean-François Dagenais, y editado por el sello Nuclear Blast el 21 de febrero de 2006.

Kittie :: Until The End (2004)

Kittie es una banda canadiense formada en 1996 por las hermanas Mercedes y Morgan Lander, que en ese entonces eran unas pre-adolescentes. Al momento del lanzamiento de su album debut Spit, en 1999, apenas tenían 15 y 17 años. Lo cierto es que, actualmente, llevan vendidas 1.250.000 unidades y han sido teloneras de Slikpknot y Pantera. En el año 2001 editaron su segundo trabajo Oracle, con más death metal, y en el 2004 editaron el album que motiva este post Until the End. Según la crítica es una acertada mezcla del pop de su album debut y el metal más extremo desplegado en Oracle. Estas chicas, que superan apenas los 20 años, están por lanzar su nuevo disco Funeral for Yesterday, que estará a la venta a partir del 20 de Febrero.

El lanzamiento del nuevo disco de Kittie, llamado Funeral For Yesterday, se espera para el 20 de Febrero. La banda de nu metal canadiense liderada por las hermanas Lander (ver más datos de la reseña posteada anteriormente aquí) ha modificado bastante el sonido para este album, sustituyendo las voces guturales que caracterizaron a los anteriores Spit, Oracle y Until The End, por voces más melódicas. Exciter :: Discografia Completa

Em 1978 foi criada uma banda chamada Hell Razor, em Ottawa, Canadá. A banda consistia em John Ricci (guitarra), Dan Beehler (bateria) e Allan James Johnson (baixo). Dois anos depois mudam o nome para Exciter e gravam uma demo, que enviam a Mike Varney da Shrapnel Records. Varney inclui uma canção desta demo no álbum US Metal Volume II, em 1982. Pouco depois, Exciter assina contrato com a Shrapnel Records. No ano seguinte é gravado o primeiro álbum, Heavy Metal Maniac. Ainda nesse ano a banda assina com a Megaforce Records. Em 1984 lançam o segundo álbum, intitulado Violence & Force. Depois de abrirem alguns concertos da banda Anthrax, partem numa tour pelos Estados Unidos, com a Mercyful Fate. Depois de assinarem com a editora Music For Nations, viajam até Londres para gravarem o terceiro álbum, Long Live the Loud. Logo depois, partem para a Europa com a banda Accept e, mais tarde, para os Estados Unidos, com as bandas Motörhead e Megadeth. Ainda em 85 gravam o EP Feel the Knife, o último trabalho a ser gravado pela formação original da banda, já que depois do lançamento do EP John Ricci deixa a banda e Brian McPhee torna-se no novo guitarrista. Unveiling the Wicked, o quarto álbum, é lançado em 1986. Depois, a banda seguiu para uma tourneé Europeia com Motörhead e Manowar. A banda decidiu que Dan Beehler, que acumulava as funções de baterista e vocalista, não iria cantar mais. Foi então contratado Rob Malnati. Malnati estreou-se em 88, no álbum Exciter. Em 1991 Dan Beehler voltou a ser também vocalista e baterista e o guitarrista John Ricci regressou á formação No ano seguinte, assinaram com a Noise Records e gravaram o sexto álbum, Kill after Kill. Durante três semanas a banda esteve em digressão pela Europa com Rage. Em 1993 lançaram o primeiro álbum ao vivo, Better Live than Dead, gravado em 91 numa tour pelo Canadá. Em Março de 1996 é anunciada uma formação quase nova: Rick Charron (bateria), Jacques Bélanger (vocais), Marc Charron (baixo). Depois de alguns concertos pelo Canadá gravaram o álbum, The Dark Command. Seguiu-se uma tour europeia com as bandas with Anvil e Flotsam and Jetsam. Durante dois anos, a banda só apareceu duas vezes em festivais. No Verão de 2000 é apresentado Blood Of Tyrants. Um ano depois, Marc Charron deixou a banda. No início de 2003 foi anunciada uma nova formação: John e Rick regressaram e, Rob Degroot e Paul Champagne juntaram-se á banda. Esta formação só durou até Março de 2003, quando Rob Degroot deixou a banda e Jacques Bélanger voltou á banda. Em 2004 Paul Champagne deixou a banda e John gravou as partes de guitarra e baixa do álbum New Testament, uma espécie de best of. Pouco depois, o baixista Rob "Clammy" Cohen juntou-se á banda . Exciter terminou o ano em grande com uma tour pela Europa, em conjunto com Steel Attack. Em 2005 actuou em vários festivais europeus: Tradate Iron Fest (Itália), Bang Your Head (Alemanha) e Metalcamp (Eslovénia). No ano seguinte, Jacques Belanger deixou a banda de novo Kenny Winter substituiu-o. A 4 de Março de 2008 Thrash Speed Burn foi apresentado ao público.

Scratching Post :: This Time It's Personal (2000)

Scratching Post is easily one of the most underrated and unrecognized bands in rock today. I find it truly surprising that their brand of metal hasn't caught on. Back in 1997 they broke into the college rock scene with their strong, but fairly green `Flamethrower.' A year later they spawned a huge hit with a metal makeover of an older song `Bloodflame' which was on their 8 track EP `Destruction of the Universe.' The EP sold like mad considering Scratching Post was an independent Canadian band. `This Time It's Personal' is this Toronto based band's fourth album and it definitely delineates a more mature, dingy and menacing tone than their previous outings. While the album may not be as menacing as Scratching Post was hoping it would be, largely due to Nicole's halfway sugar-sweet lollipop vocals, this is without question their strongest and most accessible body of work as of yet.Produced by Peters and Peters, 'This Time It's Personal' melds the usual Garbage-esque electronic beeps and boops effectively. The new sound is not an onslaught of `computer farts,' but rather a resonance that manages to deviate from the norm enough to keep fans and newbies interested.Lyrically 'This Time It's Personal' is some of Nicole Hughes (guitar, vocal) most convincing work as of recent. The majority of the songs are torrid, somewhat twisted love songs like the blistering lead off track 'Fade Away' which is a scathing break-up anthem with an exceptionally jolting chorus.Thankfully, Nicole Hughes vocals have improved dramatically since their prior albums. Her voice no longer screeches through each chorus with valley-girl shrill but rather on `This Time It's Personal' ranges from seductive cooing to bearable and somewhat unexpected screaming. Though Nicole's voice remains far too cute of a noise to fit them comfortably in the metal category.`This Time It's Personal' is a great album for any rock or metal fan. My lone complaint is that it could have been a bit longer. There are essentially only 9 tracks because `Militiagan' is merely an interlude and the disc has a short run time of around 25 minutes. Though these 25 minutes will be 25 minutes that you will want to play over again and again.

Es un documental del año 2005. Dirigido por Sam Dunn, un antropólogo canadiense de 31 años de edad, quien ha sido un fanático del heavy metal desde los 12 años de edad. En el documental viaja alrededor del mundo, para revelar las opiniones y mitos acerca del heavy metal, incluyendo sus orígenes, la controversia que rodea el género, y la razón de por qué es amado por tanta gente, así como también explorar la cultura del heavy metal. La película hizo su debút en el "Festival internacional de la película en Toronto 2005"[2005 Toronto International Film Festival] y fue lanzada como edición especial en doble DVD en los EE. UU. el 19 de septiembre de 2006.

El filme comienza con una discusión de sobre quien es realmente la primera banda de metal. Luego procede a discutir los rasgos y a los autores de algunos de muchos subgéneros del metal, incluyendo el Black Metal, Thrash metal y el Glam metal.

Dunn utiliza un árbol de géneros [organigrama] para documentar e ir explorando los diversos subgéneros del metal a través del filme. None So Vile es el segundo álbum de la banda canadiense Cryptopsy, editado en el año 1996 a través del sello Wrong Again Records.

Al igual que Effigy of the Forgotten de Suffocation, es considerado un álbum visagra para el desarrollo del Technical Death Metal y del Brutal Death Metal, además de haber revitalizado el género a mediados de los 90'.

La portada del álbum es una pintura titulada "Herodías con la cabeza de Juan el Bautista" y pertenece a la pintora de estilo barroco Elisabetta Sirani, quien a pesar de morir los 27 años de edad (1638-1665) fue una de las primeras pintoras con proyección internacional.
