Avantasia es una ópera en metal, formada por dos álbumes escritos por Tobias Sammet, vocalista y líder de la banda de Hard Rock / heavy Metal Edguy. El nombre de este proyecto es una mezcla de dos palabras: "Avalon" y "Fantasía" "y describe un mundo más allá de la imaginación humana".
Este proyecto consiste en dos CDs de 23 piezas, en el que cuenta una historia ficticia de un monje domínico, Gabriel, en el año 1602. Más información en Wikipedia.

Edguy :: Mandrake (2001)

Edguy es una banda formada en Alemania en 1992 por cuatro estudiantes de 14 años. Le pusieron Edguy debido al apodo con que llamaban a un estirado profesor de matemáticas. Liderados por Tobias Sammet, vocalista y principal compositor del grupo, son excelentes representantes del power metal europeo. En 1995, con apenas 16 años de edad, editan Savage Poetry, su album debut. Le sigue una intensa discografía, siendo Mandrake (2001), el sexto disco de la banda.

Vain Glory Opera, editado en 1998, es el tercer album de la banda alemana de power metal Edguy. Este trabajo fue la base para el éxito posterior y probablemente el más recordado, además de mi favorito. Fue producido por Timmo Tolkki (Stratovarius), que también ejecutó guitarras adicionales. Contó con la presencia de Hansi Kürsch de Blind Guardian realizando voces líderes y coros en los tracks "Out Of Control" y "Vain Glory Opera". El disco incluye además "Hymn", un cover de la banda inglesa Ultravox, exponenete del british electronic pop de comienzos de los 80's.

Line Up: Tobias Sammet (voz, bajo, teclados), Jens Ludwig (guitarras), Dirk Sauer (guitarras) y Frank Lindenhall (batería sesionsita).
