Civet :: Discography

Nearly 30 years removed from The Runaways breakthrough, this just-out-of-high-school O.C. four-piece is more a product of the intervening decade's hardcore, riot-grrl and edgier sounds than the glam-hard-rock axis around which The Runaways revolved. Still, underneath the magnified freedoms of punk rock and an understanding indie label, Civet's tales of teenage lives ring many of the same bells as The Runaways stories of being set loose on the Sunset Strip. Civet plays a whole lot tighter than The Runaways generally managed, and Liza Graves' vocals sound like Joan Jett, Paula Pierce and Courtney Love ramped up-tempo to hardcore word-spitting pace. While The OC's Seth Cohen is busy listening to mope-rock, Civet presents a picture from the other side of the tracks (or maybe the boat ramp): loud, fast, and pissed off.

Suicidal Tendencies :: Join the army (1987)

Es la segudna producción de la banda, lanzado 4 años despues que su album debut. Mike Muir usa diferentes rangos de voz que en el primer album logrando una similitud con Lemmy de Motörhead. Grant Estes fue reemplazado por Rocky George quien hizo unos solos de guitarra maa complejos y Amery Smith fue reemplazado por el baterista R.J. Herrera quien tocando metal usa doble bombo. Los cambios en la banda hicieron que su sonido fuera mas cercano al Thrash.

La temática del grupo abordaba la incomunicación, y el conflicto generacional, el aislamiento, la confusión, la soledad; el Critico Ira Robbins escribe sobre uno de sus temas; "Una de las expresiones de la era, la quinta esencia de la confusión adolescentess, convierte los malentendidos del conflicto generacional en una total ruptura de comunicaciones, conteniendo toda la filosofía Punk de películas como Repo Man y Suburbia en cuatro minutos."

La estetica y filosofía del grupo se asemejaba a la de las bandas juveniles neoyorquinas; Badanas, ropas deportivas amplias, y el propio grupo, en boca de Muir, declaraba considerarse un "Gang", y sentirse próximo a la filosofía de una banda juvenil.

Suicidal Tendencies :: Suicidal Tendencies (1983)

El éxito que tuvo el primer disco de Suicidal Tendencies, en 1983, al convertirse en uno de los más vendidos de la escena underground del punk y el metal a comienzos de los ochenta le permitió firmar con la discográfica Frontier Records. En este primer álbum homónimo aparece la canción «Institutionalized», cuyo video promocional fue uno de los primeros del estilo hardcore punk en aparecer en la cadena televisiva MTV, además de incluirse el polémico tema "I shot The Devil", que orignariamente se tituló "I shot Reagan", [Yo disparé a Reagan], frase que incluye la canción. Más tarde el tema "Institutionalized", apareció en la película de cine de de Emilio Estevez Repo Man, así como en un episodio de la serie de televisión Corrupción en Miami [en el cual el grupo hizo un cameo]
