Leviathan es el tercer album de Mastodon, editado el 31 de Agosto de 2004 a través de Relapse Records. Es un album conceptual basado en la novela de Herman Melville, Moby Dick, producido por Matt Bayles y la banda. Fue elegido como mejor album del año 2004 por las revistas Revolver, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer y Terrorizer.

Mastodon es una banda norteamericana de heavy metal con claras influencias del hardcore. Su sonido incluye poderosos y comlejos riffs de guitarras, baterías con influencias del jazz y prolongados interludios melódicos característicos del rock progresivo. Fue formada en 1999 en la ciudad de Atlanta.
Blood Mountain es su tercer album y fue editado el 11 de setiembre de 2006. Es un album conceptual acerca de las cosas que pueden sucederle a alguien que está perdido en una montaña. Fue consagrado por el público y la crítica como un album escencial de la década en el género.
